Last night London's Rich Mix cinema played host to the UK premiere of Dogwoof's upcoming documentary release Town of Runners.
Town of Runners take the audience to the rural town of Bekoji in Ethiopia, which has produced some of the world’s best long-distance runners. In the Beijing Olympics, runners from the Bekoji won all four gold medals in the long distance track events - more medals than most industrial countries. The film is about the young athletes born and raised in Bekoji, who hope to emulate their local heroes and compete on the world’s stage. Filmed over four years, the film follows their fortunes as they move from school track to national competition and from childhood to adulthood.
Last nights screening was a sell out weeks in advance, and it was great to see a packed out cinema enjoy the film. Following the screening olympic poet Lemn Sissay hosted a Q&A with the films director Jerry Rothwell and producer Dan Demissie - here are some pics from the night, more coming soon on the facebook page for the film!
