Director’s visit launches FILMCLUB Partnership

June 20th, 2012

Yi Seungjun's UK visit has included Sheffield Doc Fest and an upcoming London Q&A at the ICA but the filmmaker also made a special visit to Jubilee High School, Kingston.

Students were treated to a UK preview of Planet of Snail before having the opportunity to ask the director questions. Over 100 pupils from year 8 to year 10 gathered in their school's impressive theatre for the launch event of Dogwoof's new partnership with FILMCLUB. The partnership will see Dogwoof curate a selection of films to be included in the FILMCLUB catalogue which is accessible by a network of over 7000 UK schools. The organisation seeks to highlight the importance of film for both education and cultural awareness. FILMCLUB's selection of Dogwoof films includes Dreams of a Life, The Interrupters and Town of Runners.

The director answered questions about how his film tackles issues of language, relationships and the human senses while also describing what life was like as a filmmaker and where his inspiration came from. The session ended with pupils asking for Yi Seungjun's autograph and posing for photos. We wish FILMCLUB had been around when we were at school...

Liberty, a student at Jubilee High reflected on Planet of Snail: "We always see life through our own eyes and imagine things through our head, and it was nice to see someone else's point of view. Someone who probably doesn't have as much as we have, but makes the best of it with his partner. Yi Seungjun was really nice, I could tell he is really passionate about showing people how we should think about others and how they live."

Planet of Snail is on release in the UK from Friday 22 June and you can catch the last remaining tickets for the special Director Q&A screening on Saturday 23 June at the ICA. Click here for tickets from the ICA box office.
